Seniors Read Banned Books -- "All American Boys" by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely

The 26th most banned book of 2022, due to its inclusion of anti-police messages, alcohol, drug usage, and profanity, it nonetheless carries awards as the 2016 Coretta Scott King Author Honor book and the Walter Dean Myers Award for Outstanding Children’s Literature.

Co-written by two authors, one black and one white, the novel gives the differing perspectives of the two lead characters--also black and white--when one is a witness in the beating of the other, a young black high school classmate, by the police officer who had raised him. It is an interesting study of police brutality and the far-reaching consequences which may well result from it.
