Program Description

Event Details

Meg Gillette, Associate Professor and Chair of the English Department at Augustana College, will read selections from “The Stories We Tell: Modernism in the Tri-Cities” a compilation of the work of authors Alice French, Susan Glaspell and Arthur Davison Ficke. Gillette will share how these writers helped to establish the Tri-Cities (Davenport, Moline, Rock Island) in the late 19th and early 20th centuries as a literary powerhouse. Gillette edited the book, which includes work from the mentioned authors, as well as essays by several Augustana College English majors.

Prior to this event, be sure to stop in the Downtown library and check out the four banners profiling local writers of the 19th and early 20th century--Blackhawk, Charles Edward Russell, Alice French, Floyd Dell, George Cram Cook and Susan Glaspell.  The content was written by Augie English majors who took a class on local writers.

This event is free and open to the public.
