Wait! Don't use that old t-shirt for a dust rag - turn it into something beautiful at the Rock Island Public Library. Whether you are new to sewing, or a pro, you'll learn the basics of creating your very own t-shirt quilt. Topics include: layout/design methods, cutting and stabiliizing the t-shirts for sewing, machine piecing, basting, quilting and binding.
Due to the limited number of sewing machines, registration is required for anyone needing use of a machine. Otherwise, you can bring your own machine and follow along.
All attendees will need to bring the following:
- No less than 15 t-shirts; up to 35 shirts, depending on the design
- 8 yards of lightweight fusible web
- 6 yards sof cotton backing material
- twin-size. pre-cut low-loft or cotton batting
- white all purpose thread
If you want borders around each shirt, bring the following cotton material in your favorite color or pattern:
- 1/2 yard for border 1
- 1/2 yard for border 2
- 3 yards for border 3
Cutting mats, scissors, rotary cutters, pins, spray baste, and irons will be provided and shared throughout the day.
Depending on the number of attendees, it may not be possible to completely finish your quilt. Never fear! We are also scheduling some sewing lab times to work on your project.
