This 70 minute video published by Kaw Valley Films will be presented in three parts, each 20+ minutes in length.
Part 1 introduces the history of the Mississippi River with the subtitle, The Prize and Pawn of Empires. Beginning with the original native American Indian tribes, the narrative follows the historic tussle between France, Spain, England, and the newly minted United States for control of the river. It ends in the War of 1812, the final battle with England.
Part 2, Steamboat A-Comin' depicts the era of steam powered paddle boats that were the new and grand method of navigating the length and breadth of the mighty Mississippi stretching throughout much of the 19th century. It was a time when the steamboat's whistle as it echoed through the towns along the bank defined the wonder and grandeur of the era.
Part 3, Ol' Man River and the 20th Century, introduces the old gentleman to the wonders of new technologies--locks and dams, bridges and ferries, diesel towboats, and flood control--all designed to make the old codger behave.
Reservations are not required. Come in out of the winter weather and enjoy the show!
