In honor of the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., members of the Quad City Disabilities Awareness Coalition are teaming up to hold a community wide food drive to benefit local food pantries. The MLK Food Drive will take place April 12 thru April 26 and will involve 17 local food pantries, 38 drop off locations in the greater Quad Cities area, and 16 different non-profit partners that serve people with disabilities. Drop off your donations in the library's lobby during our open hours.
The Quad Cities Disabilities Awareness Coalition represents organizations that serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. People with disabilities have a lot to offer their community, and can give back in a variety of ways. The MLK Food Drive is an opportunity to redefine what people with disabilities are capable of when given the occasion to serve because we are all at our best when we serve others.
Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy was bringing people together to solve problems through civil service. He said, “Everybody and be great, because everyone can serve.” The MLK Food Drive engages volunteers with and without disabilities to work hand-in-hand to serve people in need. Volunteers will be picking up non-perishable donated items and delivering them to local food pantries to address food in-security in the Quad Cities.
