  • Rock Island/Milan (Milan-Blackhawk Area Public Library District) residents over age 18 who have never had an RIPL library card and who only want to use online resources.
 

How Long Does It Take to Get an eCard? 

  • Once your registration form is submitted, your eCard information will be emailed to you within 2 business days. 
  • Applications received when the library is closed will start processing on the next business day.


What Will I Receive?

  • You'll receive a barcode and PIN by email. No physical card will be issued, so save your bar code and PIN in a safe place. We recommend printing the email. Or you may want to save the bar code on your phone in a card saver app.


What Can I Do With My eCard?

An eCard gives you access to:
  • Online resources: Databases and research tools that can be used outside the library.
  • Downloadable eBooks, audiobooks, movies, magazines, and music
 

What Can’t I Do With My eCard?

  • Requesting and borrowing physical materials requires our full-access physical library card.  eCards can be upgraded to physical cards at any Rock Island Public Library location.
  • Reserving time on a library computer also requires our full access library card.
 

What If I Lose My eCard Number?

  • Please email our Circulation Department
  • We recommend printing the email we send, or saving it to your smartphone, (Check your app store for free stored card apps.)
 

How Do I Renew My eCard?

  • eCards expire in one year. You can renew your eCard 10 days before it expires or later. Just complete the registration form again using the same email address that's in your account. We'll find the expired account and send you an email confirmation of your renewal.
 

How Do I Upgrade to a Full Access Library Card?

  • Bring a photo id with your name and current address to apply in person at a Rock Island Public Library location. Photo ID without current address must be accompanied by a piece of mail with the correct address.
 

How Do I Upgrade My Account Information?

  • Email Circulation with the information and your account will be updated.

I understand and agree to the following statements:

  • I am 18 years of age or older and a resident of Rock Island or the Milan-Blackhawk Area Public Library District.
  • I will not permit anyone other than myself to use this virtual library card.
  • I will report a lost or stolen barcode immediately.
  • I realize this virtual card will allow users 18 to older to access only the library's digital online resources, such as databases, digital content, eBooks, and online research tools. It does not permit me to borrow physical materials, such as print resources, or audio-visual materials, or to place physical materials on hold.
  • I also understand that this virtual card does not permit me to access the Internet on library computers.
  • Library rules and policies are subject to change without notice.
