About Us
What Types of Library Cards Do You Offer?
If you live in Rock Island, Milan, or within the Milan-Blackhawk Area Public Library District, you qualify! Cards are free.
Apply at any Rock Island Public Library for our two physical cards:
My First Library Card for children six and under
Built-in limits to help parents control use, and no fines for late items.
Check out up to 10 children's items (Rock Island Library locations only)
Internet use and holds are not available.
Lost or damaged items are charged to parent.
Full access library card for ages six and up
Full borrowing privileges and library computer time
Access to ALL library services and materials, including digital services and online research tools
Can't Make It Into the Library?
Option 1: To apply or renew your physical card online, please use our
online application

Library staff will check your eligibility status before issuing card. Please allow a few business days for processing and mailing.
If you have received a library card renewal reminder, you can also renew by email.
Option 2: Apply for a Rock Island Library eCard instead (for use with electronic materials only)
Available to ages 14 and up. Access to databases, eBooks, digital content, & online research material
For residents who
only
want access to electronic resources that can be used from home
May be upgraded at the library to a physical card for full privileges

Other situation?
Cards are also available for special situations, such as students enrolled at Augustana College, and other temporary residents. Please contact our Circulation staff for details about applying for these cards.
