The Rock Island Library’s HUG-A-Book reading event is Thursday, August 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., in the Main Library Community Room at 401 19^th Street. HUG-A-Book is an annual early learning program for children ages two to five and their families. Each child gets a new, free book of their very own to hug and take home, courtesy of the Merrill Harris memorial fund of the Rock Island Public Library Foundation. Children and their families can come meet our costumed characters, hear a story or two, sing a song, make some crafts and get a free book. The event is free.

Paint for Pages Art Reception/Fundraiser

Paint for Pages, a special art reception & silent auction, will raise funds for the Lorene Evans Watts Memorial Fund for Children's Materials on Saturday, July 3 from 6 to 8:30 p.m., in the Rock Island Main Library's Community Room and art gallery. Mrs. Watts, a long-time teacher, artist and children's advocate, served on the Rock Island Library Board of Trustees.

In addition to showing Mrs. Watts' artwork, the night will feature sales of artwork by local and family artists, as well as light refreshments, a silent auction and an autograph session with former AFL player Booker Edgerson, a Rock Island native. The special after-hours event is from6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Rock Island Public Library Community Room and art gallery on the 2nd floor.

All monies raised will go to the Lorene Evans Watts Memorial Fund for Children’s Materials set up through the Rock Island Public Library Foundation.

Lil' Rev Presents Jews N Blues

Publicity photo of performer Lil' Rev The Rock Island Library and the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities will partner to host a unique program on Jewish arts and culture, "Lil' Rev presents Jews N Blues." The one-man live music show at the Main Library, 401 19th Street, celebrates the Jewish contribution to American roots and blues music. The music program is free and open to the public, and is made possible through a partnership between the Rock Island Public Library and the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities.

The program is in the Community Room on the 2nd floor, and is handicapped accessible via the elevator from the ground floor entrance on the south side of the library.
